Get Well Wishes For Stroke Patients
Petition Wangchen
.
" Wangchen , Tibetan filmmaker, was sentenced to six years imprisonment in China for a documentary he made before the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
.
Title Leaving Fear Behind ("Overcome Fear"), he presents a series of interviews with Tibetans expressing all their skepticism about the promises of the Chinese authorities on the development of freedom on the eve of the Beijing Olympics. The film was smuggled into Switzerland where Gyaljong Tsetrin, a cousin of Wangchen, has completed the installation.
On March 26, 2008, Wangchen was arrested in the province of Qinghai. He escaped July 13, 2008 and phoned Gyaljong Tsetrin. He was again arrested and jailed the next day at the detention center No. 1 in the city of Xining. During his telephone conversation with his cousin, Wangchen described the torture suffered in detention. During a series of interrogations that lasted several weeks, he was struck on the body and head, frequently deprived of food and sleep, and tethered to a chair. No medical care was given to him when he suffers from hepatitis B.
Authorities accused Wangchen of "inciting separatism". After a secret trial he was convicted of "subversion". The authorities have forced the lawyers chosen by her family to stop represent him in July 2009, and it is unclear whether he subsequently received any legal assistance during his trial. He was denied the right to appeal his conviction. Amnesty International considers him a prisoner of conscience. "
